Our Commitment to Digital Inclusion

CNP News is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards to achieve this.

Accessibility Standards

CNP News strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more user-friendly for everyone.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA, and AAA). We’ve chosen Level AA as our target because it strikes a reasonable balance between maximal accessibility and what can be technically and practically achieved with our resources.

Our Approach to Accessibility

We believe that digital accessibility requires an ongoing commitment. Our approach includes:

Regular Evaluation

We regularly review our content and functionality to identify and address accessibility issues:

  • Automated testing with specialized accessibility evaluation tools
  • Manual testing with screen readers and keyboard navigation
  • Periodic third-party accessibility audits
  • User testing with individuals who have diverse abilities

Inclusive Design Principles

We incorporate accessibility considerations from the beginning of our design and development processes:

  • Using semantic HTML that conveys meaning and structure
  • Ensuring proper color contrast for text and interactive elements
  • Providing text alternatives for non-text content
  • Designing for keyboard accessibility and device independence
  • Creating responsive designs that function across devices and screen sizes

Staff Training

We provide regular training for our team members on accessibility best practices:

  • Content creators learn how to produce accessible articles and multimedia
  • Developers receive training on accessible coding techniques
  • Designers understand inclusive design principles
  • Editors include accessibility checks in their review process

Known Limitations

We are transparent about current accessibility limitations on our site that we are working to address:

  • Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible; we are in the process of remediating these files
  • Third-party content and embedded social media feeds may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control
  • Some complex data visualizations in our business reporting section may have limited alternatives; we are developing improved accessibility for these features
  • Our archive content (pre-2023) may not meet all current accessibility standards; we are gradually updating these articles

We prioritize improvements based on potential impact and usage patterns, focusing first on core functionality and most-visited content.
